The number and rate of US job openings was little changed at 7.2 million and 4.3 per cent respectively in July this year, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).

Over the month, both hires and total separations were unchanged at 5.3 million. Within separations, both quits (3.2 million) and layoffs and discharges (1.8 million) remained unchanged. 

In July, the rate of hires too remained unchanged at 3.3 per cent, a BLS release said.

The rate of total separations remained unchanged in the month at 3.3 per cent. Total separations changed little in all industries.

The number and rate of quits were unchanged in the month at 3.2 million and 2 per cent respectively.
