Saudi Arabia continues to remain the third largest producer of ethylene worldwide, next only to the US and China. The kingdom is expected to produce 17 million tons of ethylene in 2016. Its average annual sales are around $17 billion. Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC) is the main contributor to Saudi Arabia's total ethylene production.

Company-wise, SABIC has second largest global ethylene capacity of 13 million tons per year, a leading daily said. SABIC has branches in the Jubail and Yanbu industrial cities in the kingdom, and also joint ventures in China, the UK, and the Netherlands.

With capacity of 2.250 million tons per year, SABIC's Petrokemya in Jubail is the fourth largest ethylene complex in the world. Another SABIC complex, the Yanbu Petrochemical Company (Yanpet) is ranked tenth with 1.705 million tons per annum capacity, the report said.

The new ethylene production capacity of PetroRabigh has contributed in increasing Kingdom's total ethylene output. This ethane cracker currently produces 1.6 million tons annually.

Moreover, PetroRabigh's new production capacity for ethylene contributed in raising the Kingdom's total capacity, with its recent success in increasing production of ethane cracker unit to 125 million cubic feet per day, resulting in the increase of production capacity from 1.3 million tons per year to 1.6 million tons annually.
