Shanghai-Vientiane freight train route commences operations

A new freight train route connecting Shanghai and Vientiane, the capital of Laos, has been inaugurated on Sunday, according to the information office of the Kunming municipal government. This train route, connecting the China-Laos Railway and the Shanghai-Kunming Railway, will run both ways.

The maiden journey, which began at Wangjiaying West Station in Kunming, Yunnan Province, is slated to reach Shanghai in approximately 82 hours. This initiative is a pivotal part of the Belt and Road Initiative, according to Chinese media reports.

Since its inception in December 2021, the China-Laos Railway has facilitated the transportation of around 27 million tonnes of goods to countries such as Laos, Thailand, Vietnam, and Myanmar.
