India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi today urged stakeholders in trade and commerce sectors to take full advantage of the new opportunities created by the changes in the global supply chain in the post-COVID-19 world. He was interacting with the heads of Indian missions abroad and the stakeholders via video conference on the theme ‘local goes global’.

Commerce minister Piyush Goyal, external affairs minister S Jaishankar, secretaries of more than 20 departments, state government officials, members of Export Promotion Councils and chambers of commerce also participated in the interaction, said an official release.
One of the goals of the Atmanirbhar Bharat mission is to raise manifold India's share in global exports, for which the Indian industry will have to move towards the best technology, focus on innovation and increase share in research and development, he said.
Stressing that the country has to prepare global champions in every sector, he said this is the only way to raise the country’s share in the global value chain.
Making manufacturing qualitatively competitive; addressing problems of transport and logistics; the government walking shoulder to shoulder with exporters; and expanding the global market for Indian products are the four factors that are key to raising exports, the prime minister emphasized.
He noted that the production-linked incentive scheme will not only help in increasing the scale of Indian manufacturing, but also increase the level of quality and efficiency.
The recent decision to get rid of retrospective taxation shows the government’s commitment, reflects consistency in policies and offers a clear message to all investors that India is not only opening its doors for new possibilities, but the government has the will to fulfill its promises, he added.
