Textile Exchange has announced the development of a new Standards Claims Framework. Textile Exchange, headquartered in US, identifies and shares best practices regarding farming, materials, processing, traceability, and product end-of-life in order to reduce the textile industry’s impact on the world’s water, soil and air, and the human population.

The resource will replace the five Logo Use and Claims Guides that currently provide guidance and requirements for communicating about the Organic Content Standard, Global Recycled Standard, Recycled Claim Standard, Responsible Down Standard, Responsible Wool Standard, and Responsible Mohair Standard. The goal of the Standards Claims Framework is to offer an easier way for standards users to understand how to make claims and/or label their products, according to a press release by Textile Exchange.

The process for the development of the Standards Claims Framework includes a 30-day public consultation period during which all interested stakeholders are invited to give input on the first draft of the proposed claims language. Following a review of the feedback, a second consultation will take place near the end of June 2020 for the full Standards Claims Framework.

One key area of the Claims Framework will be the introduction of ‘allowed claims’. This means that instead of providing guidelines around permitted language, Textile Exchange will provide prescriptive language for you to use to communicate your commitments, progress, and use of Textile Exchange standards. This will create more consistency behind the language, rules that are easier to follow, and less room for interpretation that may put the credibility of the standards or your company at risk.
