The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) in India’s Uttar Pradesh state is planning to set up a textile park near the upcoming Jewar airport in Gautam Buddha Nagar district, according to the authority, which recently held meetings with Noida Apparel Export Cluster (NAEC) and agreed to allot a 200-acre plot to 100 textile businesses.
The textile park is expected to be ready in three years. Land for the proposed textile park will be allotted in a few days and the park will create employment nearly 5 lakh people, 90 per cent of the workers being women, a top Indian English-language daily quoted YEIDA CEO Arunveer Singh as saying.
According to NAEC president Lalit Thukral, the textile-apparel industry in Noida-Greater Noida area annually exports RMG worth ₹14,000 crore. As land in Noida and Greater Noida is expensive, Jewar is an ideal option for businessmen, he said. (DS)
