Thailand wants to join the new 11-member Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), deputy prime minister Somkid Jatusripitak said recently. The Thai Government has asked the commerce ministry to look into the details on how to join the partnership. Thailand will seek support from Japan on the matter, Somkid said.

If there are no problems, Thailand will join the grouping this year, media reports from Thailand quoted Somkid as saying.

Eleven countries, including Japan and Canada, singed the CPTPP deal earlier this month after the United States withdrew last year from the original 12-member agreement, known as the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). (DS)
