TN to set up MSME bureau & organic certification centres

Setting up a new autonomous body ‘MSME Trade and Investment Promotion Bureau’ and Organic Certification Centres are among the key announcements made by Tamil Nadu deputy chief minister O Panneerselvam during his presentation of the state budget for 2019-20. Tiruppur Exporters’ Association (TEA) has welcomed the budget that focuses on welfare schemes.

The new MSME Bureau will be set up to promote overseas investment in MSME sector in Tamil Nadu and provide access to international markets for products and services of the MSMEs. “This will largely help Tiruppur MSME knitwear exporting units,” TEA president Raja M Shanmugham said in a press release.

To promote organic farming in the state, the TN government will set up Organic Certification Centres in all districts, Panneerselvam said in his budget speech in the assembly.

“The government’s decision to form Tamil Nadu Infrastructure Development Board to fast track infrastructure projects will help to execute the projects in time,” said Shanmugham. He welcomed the proposal to commence the implementation of the Athikadavu Avinashi Scheme with allocation of ₹1,000 crore.

He appreciated comprehensive strategies followed for poverty allocation. The government has allocated of a sum of ₹230.89 crore under Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY) for placement linked skill training to benefit rural youth for the coming year. Shanmugham pointed out that “Skill Division of NIFT TEA College of Knitwear Fashion is also imparting training to youth under the scheme and will place them in member units of our association.”

Shanmugham also welcomed the budget proposal to establish Advanced High End Skill Building centres to impart higher level technical skills to unemployed engineering graduates in the coming year under PPP mode in five selected district headquarters. He urged the government to select Tiruppur amnog the five centres. (RKS)
