Tunisia's textile export gains surge by 11.9% from Jan-Sept 2022

Tunisia’s revenues from textile and clothing exports increased by 11.9 per cent from January-September, 2022, compared to the corresponding period in 2021, to reach 6,135.25 million dinars (around $1902.41 million). However, the quantities of goods exported by the country fell to 99,250.97 tons, a decrease of 27.24 per cent year-on-year (YoY).

Knitwear exports grew by 24.49 per cent in tons and 34.85 per cent in dinars between January to September 2022. Exports of clothing in warp and weft jumped 12.82 per cent in tons and 18 per cent in dinars during January to September 2022 when compared to the corresponding period in 2021, according to a monthly assessment of foreign trade textile/clothing by the Technical Center for Textiles (CETTEX).

There was development in value and weight for clothing exports in warp and weft concerning the main markets — Germany (+28.23 per cent in weight and +34.02 per cent in dinars), Italy (+10.17 per cent in weight and +21.33 per cent in dinars), and France (+4.40 per cent in weight and +12.94 per cent in dinars).

Exports of Tunisia’s textile sector dropped 50.33 per cent in tons and 34.03 per cent in dinars. While the African nation’s textile exports to France dropped by 52 per cent, exports to Italy rose by 13.65 per cent.

Textile and clothing imports grew by 29.22 per cent by the end of September 2022 in comparison to the corresponding period of 2021 and are valued at 5,511.15 million dinars (about $1708.89 million). However, quantities of imports dipped to 235,885,56 tons, a decrease of 16.06 per cent.
