Turkiye leads fabric export growth to Africa in Q1 2025

Fabric exports from China, India, and Turkiye surged in the first quarter of the current year, with Turkiye recording the highest growth rate at 15.38 per cent. In comparison, exports from China grew by 10 per cent and from India by 9.62 per cent during the same period. However, China remained the largest fabric supplier by a significant margin.

Turkiye’s fabric exports to Africa rose to $180.297 million during January–March 2025, up from $156.496 million in the same period last year. India’s exports also increased by 9.62 per cent, reaching $262.681 million in the first quarter of 2025, compared to $239.946 million in January–March 2024.

China’s exports to Africa showed milder growth, rising to $2,510.134 million from $2,281.313 million, according to Fibre2Fashion’s market insight tool TexPro. Despite the modest growth, China remained the dominant supplier among the three countries.

However, both China and Turkiye recorded a quarter-on-quarter decline in exports to Africa. China’s exports dropped by 10.92 per cent in Q1 2025 from $2,850.158 million in Q4 2024. Turkiye’s exports also decreased by 4.25 per cent from $188.923 million in the previous quarter, as per TexPro.

In 2024, China’s annual fabric exports to Africa totalled $10.157 billion, compared to $10.084 billion in 2023 and $10.464 billion in 2022. India’s exports were valued at $887.555 million in 2024, marking a 12.86 per cent decline from $1,018.463 million in 2023. In 2022, India had exported $1,086.097 million worth of fabric to the continent. Turkiye’s exports stood at $689.213 million in 2024, up from $635.803 million in 2023 and $685.710 million in 2022.
