UK's monthly GDP stagnant in February 2023: ONS

The UK's monthly gross domestic product (GDP) was stagnant in February 2023, after growing by 0.4 per cent in January, according to the latest estimates from the Office for National Statistics (ONS). Monthly GDP in February 2023 was 0.3 per cent above its pre-COVID-19 levels (February 2020).

Looking more broadly, GDP grew by 0.1 per cent in the three months to February 2023 when compared with the three months to November 2022. Production fell by 0.1 per cent.

Monthly GDP grew by 0.5 per cent in February 2023 compared with the same month last year. For comparison, monthly GDP grew by 0.4 per cent between January 2022 and January 2023, as per ONS.

Furthermore, production output fell by 0.2 per cent in February 2023, after a fall of 0.5 per cent in January 2023.

Manufacturing remained flat in February 2023 and saw declines in 7 of its 13 sub-sectors. The contribution of manufacturing of textiles wearing apparel and leather products fell by 0.06 per cent in Feb 2023.
