UK employment rate for people aged 16 to 64 was estimated at 75 per cent in the third quarter (Q3) this year, according to the Office of National Statistics (ONS). This is down in the latest quarter, but above estimates of a year ago.

UK unemployment rate for the same age group was estimated at 5 per cent during the quarter. This is up in the latest quarter and above estimates of a year ago.

Economic inactivity rate for the same age group in the country was estimated at 21 per cent in the quarter. This is largely unchanged in the latest quarter, but below estimates of a year ago.

Estimates for payrolled employees in the country fell by 117,000 (0.4 per cent) year on year (YoY) and decreased by 32,000 (0.1 per cent) in September 2025, an ONS release said.

The number of payrolled employees fell by 109,000 (0.4 per cent) YoY and 26,000 (0.1 per cent) quarter on quarter in Q3 2025.

The estimated number of vacancies in the UK is broadly unchanged on the quarter; early estimates suggest a small increase of just 2,000 (0.2 per cent) vacancies to 723,000 in August to October 2025.
