Segment-wise, the apparel index saw a rise of 0.3 per cent in June. Meanwhile, the energy index registered an increase of 0.6 per cent.
The index for all items, excluding food and energy, noted a modest increase of 0.2 per cent in June, the smallest monthly rise since August 2021. Despite this subdued increase, the same index, measured on a 12-month basis, reported a significant 4.8 per cent surge, as per the US Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Over the 12-month period ending June 2023, the all items index climbed 3 per cent, the smallest annual increase since the period ending March 2021. Contrastingly, the energy index decreased by 16.7 per cent over the same period.
In terms of index level, the CPI-U rose by 3 per cent over the last 12 months to stand at 305.109. For the month, the index noted an increase of 0.3 per cent before seasonal adjustments.
