Category-wise, apparel exports increased by 1.05 per cent year-on-year to $5.099 billion, while textile mill products dipped 2.53 per cent to $14.355 billion during the first ten months of 2019.
Among apparel, the highest growth of 29.37 per cent was registered in exports of men's and boy's sport & dress coats, whereas a maximum decline of 32.07 per cent was seen in exports of women's and girl's suit-type jackets & coats.
Among textile mill products, yarn exports declined by 4.23 per cent year-on-year to $3.630 billion, while fabric exports decreased by 2.77 per cent to $7.535 billion and made-up article exports decreased by 0.08 per cent to $3.189 billion.
Country-wise, Mexico and Canada together accounted for nearly half of the total US textile and clothing exports during the period under review. The US supplied $5.107 billion worth of textiles and apparel to Mexico during the ten-month period, followed by $4.520 billion to Canada and $1.368 billion to Honduras.
In recent years, the US textile and clothing exports have remained in the range of $22-25 billion per annum. In 2014, they stood at $24.418 billion, while the figure was $23.622 billion in 2015, $22.124 billion in 2016, $22.671 billion in 2017 and $23.467 billion in 2018.
