US Upland, Pima cotton sales up, shipments slow despite demand: USDA

Net sales of Upland cotton in the US totalled 186,100 running bales (RB), each weighing 226.8 kg (500 pounds), for the 2025–26 marketing year during the week ending September 11, 2025. This was 44 per cent higher than the previous week’s 129,600 RB but 33 per cent below the prior four-week average.

According to the US Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) weekly export sales report, sales increases were mainly for Vietnam (77,000 RB, including reductions of 500 RB), India (41,800 RB), Malaysia (22,000 RB), Turkiye (17,300 RB), and Pakistan (6,400 RB). Net sales of 19,000 RB for 2026–27 were entirely for Vietnam.

Export shipments of 120,500 RB were down 8 per cent from both the previous week and the prior four-week average. The primary destinations were Vietnam (55,100 RB), Turkiye (13,900 RB), Mexico (10,400 RB), India (5,500 RB), and Pakistan (5,000 RB).

Net sales of Pima cotton totalled 5,200 RB for 2025–26, up significantly from both the previous week and the prior four-week average. Increases were mainly for India (2,700 RB), Pakistan (1,700 RB), Thailand (900 RB), Turkiye (200 RB), and Indonesia (100 RB), partly offset by reductions for Italy (400 RB) and Japan (100 RB).

Export shipments of 2,400 RB were down 59 per cent from the previous week and 67 per cent from the prior four-week average. The shipments went primarily to India (1,600 RB), South Korea (300 RB), Bangladesh (300 RB), Vietnam (200 RB), and Japan (100 RB).
