The contraction was largely driven by weaker shipments of upstream products such as yarn and fabrics, reflecting softer global demand, price pressure in commodity textiles, and the country’s ongoing policy-led shift away from raw and semi-processed exports. In contrast, apparel exports posted double-digit growth, highlighting the industry’s strategic pivot towards value-added manufacturing.
Government trade data showed that exports of textile fibres plunged **.* per cent to $**.* million, while shipments of yarn, fabrics and made-up articles fell **.* per cent to $*.** billion. These declines were partly due to subdued international demand for intermediate textiles, heightened competition from larger regional suppliers, and Uzbekistan’s increased domestic consumption of yarn and fabric by local garment manufacturers. Meanwhile, exports of apparel and clothing accessories rose a robust **.* per cent year on year to $***.* million, significantly outperforming the broader textile segment.
