Roughly 45.6 million people were in employment in Germany in the third quarter (Q3) of 2022. The seasonally adjusted number of persons in employment rose slightly by 22,000 in Q2 2022, following an increase of 123,000 people or 0.3 per cent in Q2 2022, according to provisional calculations of the Federal Statistical Office of Germany (Destatis).

Without adjustment for seasonal effects, the number of persons in employment increased by 166,000 or 0.4 per cent due to the beginning of the autumn upturn. In 2022, this seasonal upturn was however lower than the relevant average of the three pre-crisis years 2017 to 2019 (+224,000 people; +0.5 per cent).

The former record high, which also amounted to 45.6 million persons being employed in Germany, had been reached in Q4 2019. It was exceeded by 82,000 people or 0.2 per cent, in Q3 2022.
