Italy's consumer confidence index decreased from 94.8 to 90.1 this October, according to government statistics agency Istat. Regarding the business confidence climate, the index (Istat economic sentiment indicator, or IESI) lessened from 105.1 to 104.5. The economic confidence index and the future one also worsened, passing from 81.3 to 77.6 and from 91.8 to 88.8 respectively.

The confidence climate in manufacturing went down from 101.2 to 100.4. More specifically, assessments on order books worsened, while expectations on future production slightly recovered. As for assessments on inventories, the balance of the variable grew from 3.1 to 3.9, Istat said in a release.

Particularly marked negative signals came from the current and the personal confidence climate indices whose values fell from 96.9 to 91 and from 99.3 to 94.3 respectively.

The retail trade confidence showed a further deterioration moving from 110.5 to 108.7. In particular, unfavourable signals came from both assessments on current business trend and expectations on future sales. Inventories slightly increased.
