Most textile sectors fail in 2005

Industrial production for all textile sectors including man-made fibers, spun yarn, woven fabrics, dyeing and finishing processes and clothes were down in 2005 as compared to 2004.

Statistics released yesterday by Ministry of Economy Trade & Industry indicates highest downfall in woolen and worsted yarn segment (-17.1 percent), followed by clothes category (underwears down -16.2 percent) and synthethic fibre yarn (-15.4 percent) in 2005, over the previous year.

Woolen and worsted yarn output was 14,508 tons in 2005 compared to 17,499 tons in 2004, while 96,097,000 underwears were manufactured against a figure of 114,629,000, recorded in 2004.

Non-woven fabrics output was 313,977 tons against 296,540 tons showing one of the two positive growth sectors over the previous year.

Meanwhile, shipments and inventories of textiles and consumer goods have also shown noticeable decline over the previous year (2004) with sythetic fibre yarns, underwears and woolen and cotton fabrics registering notable decline (-19.2, -15.4 and 14.9 percent), in that order in shipment terms.
