AmCham-China President Charles Martin and PPDC Co-chair Matt Roberts also spoke at the press conference. Martin stated the need for U.S. small- and medium-sized enterprises to get into the market and to get support from state and federal governments and from trade associations.
He said that both state and trade association offices need to be expanded given China's increasingly open market and purchasing power. With U.S. strength in fields such as financial services and retail, “the opportunities are just starting,” he said.
In response to questions about intellectual property rights, Roberts said enforcement of these laws in China was of help to all.
“IP protection [is needed] not just for Chinese companies but for foreign companies,” he said. Martin added that more resources for everything from customs officials to judges were needed.
