Skilled textile sector vacancy drops by 2.7% for Feb

The index of skilled job vacancies in Australia fell to 0.7 percent in February registering a low of 10.2 percent compared to year ago, informed the Employment Department.

The index is calculated on the basis of skilled vacancy advertisements in the metropolitan newspapers of six states and Northern Territory.

Vacancies for professionals were down by 0.5 percent and trades by 0.8 percent whereas vacancies for associate professionals went up by 2.2 percent and vacancies for accountants and auditors remained steady during February.

Science professionals registered a strong increase with a climb of 5.0 percent, food trades went up by 3.7 percent and medical and science technical officers, 2.9 percent.

The strongest fall was recorded in marketing and advertising with a dip of 3.4 percent, automotive trades by 3.2 percent, and wood and textile trades by 2.7 percent.

Information and Communications Technology (ICT) index rose by 27.6 percent to 239.6 over four weeks to mid-February, compared to 24.6 percent higher than a year ago.
