Macau's trade has had a good start this year, with both exports registering higher growth than the imports in January 2006.

While imports showed 17.6 percent rise, exports recorded a 39.5 percent increase.

Textile and garment exports registered a 48 percent rise over 2005 and made up over 82 percent of total exports in January.

The US and the EU remained top destinations, together accounting for over 75.7 percent of total export value.

However, Macau's major importers are Asian countries, Chinese mainland and Hong Kong together making up for almost 52 percent of imports.
