Clothig & footwear prices down, textiles trade up in Feb

National Statistical Office of Mongolia released the Consumer Price Index, External Trade and Industrial Output for the month of February 2006.

In February of 2006, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased by 43.7 percent compared with the end of 2000 (base period), by 6.8 percent from the corresponding period of previous year, by 2.9 percent from the end of previous year and by 2.1 percent compared with previous month.

The prices of cultural goods and recreation and other goods & services increased by 0.1-4.1 percent. In contrast the prices of clothing and footwear decreased by 0.2 percent.

In February of 2006, the consumer price index decreased by 0.3 percent in Darkhan-Uul aimag compared to the previous month. In the rest aimags, consumer price index increased by 0.1-2.2 percent.

External trade - For the first 2 months of 2006, total external trade turnover equaled 265.0 million US dollars, of which exports 127.6 million US dollars and imports 137.4 million US dollars.

Total external trade balance turned a deficit of 9.8 million US dollars. The deficit decreased by 2.5 times compared same period of the previous year. As compared with the same period of the previous year, total external trade turnover increased by 25.7 percent, exports by 36.9 percent, imports by 16.8 percent respectively.

As compared with the same period of the previous year, mineral products exports increased by 24.0 million US dollars, raw and processed hides, skins, fur and articles thereof exports by 4.5 million US dollars, natural or cultured pearls, precious metal, jewellery by 4.1 million US dollars and textiles and textile articles by 3.6 million US dollars.
