Avanti Cotton Mill at Sanawad, managed by Madhya Pradesh Textile Corporation was closed down in 2001 due to continuous losses.

This has left over one thousand mill workers unemployed.

Responsibility of running the sick textile unit has now been taken over by Mill Workers' Society.

State Textile Corporation has decided to hand over sick unit to mill workers society for Rs5.21 crores.

Textile Corporation's Managing Director and President of Mill Workers' Society, signed the sale agreement in presence of State Minister for Commerce and Industries on May 2, 2006.

Industries Minister has taken initiative to revive sick textile unit. An attempt has been made to break new ground by handing over sick mill to workers to operate.

For reviving the unit, new management would have to pay a hefty amount to State Electricity Board to clear pending electricity bills. Many other measures would also have to be undertaken immediately to put the unit back on rails.
