Local apparel industry is not only beneficial for the Commonwealth but also for its workers, said Garment Oversight Board (GOB).

Garment Monitoring group, GOB comprises former and current judges and justices, who opine that garment industry is being more strictly regulated by CNMI than any other textile manufacturing countries.

GOB, Chairman Timothy Bellas, said that retailer will be at advantage by doing business with the garment industry in CNMI as non-governmental organization verifies certified manufacturers.

Quoting leading news paper, Bellas said that working condition in CNMI is far better than the Jordan, where average monthly pay is $120 but workers get only $50 per month.

Garment Oversight Board was formed in accordance to the May 2003 settlement agreement among Saipan garment manufacturers, retailers that purchase garments from Saipan, and the foreign workers employed in the industry.
