Statistics reveal cotton fabric export value up in Nov '05

Cotton fabrics maintained its first position in its group during November, 2005 as in the previous month. During this month its exports amounted to Rs. 8,910.54 million as against Rs. 10,621.61 million in October, 2005 and Rs. 7,064.34 million during November, 2004 showing a decrease of 16.11 percent over October, 2005 while an increase of 26.13 percent over November, 2004.

During July - November, 2005 of current financial year 1,160,166 thousand sq. meters of cotton fabrics valued at Rs. 51,971.39 million were exported as against 924,899 thousand sq. meters valued at Rs. 40,337.73 million during the same period of last year showing an increase of 25.44 percent in terms of quantity and 28.84 percent in terms of value.

During July – November, 2005 the average unit price of cotton fabrics increased to Rs. 44.80 per sq. meter from Rs. 43.61 per sq. meter during the corresponding period of last year showing an increase of 2.73 percent.

Main buyers of cotton fabrics during July - November, 2005 of current financial year were U.S.A. (Rs. 7,522.02 million), Turkey (Rs. 4,339.64 million), Hong Kong (Rs. 2,903.67 million), Italy (Rs. 2,618.37 million), Bangladesh (Rs. 2,365.49 million), Sri Lanka (Rs. 2,194.84 million), United Kingdom (Rs. 2,068.61 million), U.A.E. (Rs. 1,835.48 million), China (Rs. 1,737.32 million), Germany (Rs. 1,718.10 million) and South Africa (Rs. 1,550.05 million). Their total take-off accounted for 62.77 percent of total exports ofcotton cloth as compared to their combined share of 62.41 percent during the same period of last year.
