Apparel shines while household textile declines

Apparel retail sales in Argentina continued the good show in June but sales of household textiles slumped. Sale of apparel jumped by 33.1 percent compared to previous year, the tenth consecutive year when sales grew at double digit rate.

Commodities like textiles, footwear and apparel witnessed an increase of 15.8 percent in June compared to last year. However, this was a decline against the growth from May sales gains of 24 percent and was the lowest growth in monthly sales for the last 40 months.

Soccer World Cup, 2006 helped the sales of sports apparel and accessories which shot up 36.2 percent compared to previous year.

Only sector lagging behind was household textile with retail sales of furnishing and household textiles declining by 20.2 percent in June from previous year.
