Government of Pakistan has enlisted Gherzi International Consultants, a Switzerland based consultancy firm to conduct competent benchmark analysis on cost of conducting business in textile products like yarn and fabrics.
All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) has planned this analysis under guidance of the Ministry of Textiles to assess companies and frame growth policies for them.
Gherzi representative Udu Hart Mann arrived in Pakistan to conduct meetings in Karachi, Lahore and Faisalabad with industrialists of textile sector. He will present a comprehensive report to the Textile Minister in Islamabad afterwards.
A senior official of the Ministry stated that it was required to evaluate competition of textile sector in the present scenario when job quotas have been cancelled and nations are vying to obtain larger 'slice' of international market.
Gherzi will submit a concluding report in about 15 days, and will be reimbursed US $30,000 from Export Development Funds (EDF) for its effort, as contracted by the Government.
Textile Secretary Masood Alam Rizvi stated that the Ministry wanted a genuine benchmark study on the industry sector which includes spinning, weaving and dyeing sub sectors, to judge Pakistan's stature as against other nations and identify obstacles faced by this sector and related solutions.
