Lubbock is the biggest cotton patch globally. This year's statewide production of cotton has been predicted by experts to fall down compared to last two remarkable years.

Last year cotton, lint and seed industries of Texas stood second in the world in terms of economy, bringing proceeds of $2 billion.

As per USDA statistics, net cotton production in the country for lint was $5.3 billion last year. By including cottonseed, net production increased to $6.2 billion.

Charley Triplett, Grower Services Manager, Plains Cotton Co-operative Association situated in Lubbock, stated that cotton consumption in US has been reduced to half in past ten years.

Of the 8.44 million cotton bales produced upland in the state last year, over 5.62 million bales were from High Plains cotton fields only.

Crops grown in Extension District 2 contribute 28.7 percent of net production in the state, with cotton crops in the region making up 41.8 percent of total agriculture value.

Last year in all 41 counties in High Plains area, over 3.72 million acres were sowed to upland cotton and 3.43 million acres of this were reaped to get over 5,620,000 million bales of 480 pounds, as stated by National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS).
