Trade deficit to reach $5 bn this year

Ministry of Industry (MOI) recently reported that trade deficit of the country in whole 2006 would touch US $5 billion due to sharp increase in imports of materials, machines and equipments served for domestic industrial production.

In November only, goods imports turnover of Vietnam was roundly $4.1 billion, rose 34.3 percent from same period last year, statistics figures showed.

Among imported goods and materials, ones served for textile and apparel industry made strongest growth, including cotton (190.6 percent), fibre of all types (77.3 percent), spare parts of motorbike (51.5 percent), steel (20.8 percent), oil and petroleum (13.7 percent) and paper of all types (29 percent).
