Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) has purchased a pair of Frances Slocum's red wool dress leggings having delicate silk ribbons and beadwork for $60,000. DIA acquired the historically significant 'Miami Leggings' with 53 other textile works from a private collection belonging to Flint Ink Foundation.

These works could provide the institute with an all-inclusive collection specific to Great Lakes region. They will be displayed in the museum's Native American Gallery by next fall.

This collection of textiles is among a series of recent native art buyings specific to Great Lakes by DIA. A ceremonial wool Oto coat worth $1,00,000 with elaborate glass bead embellishments is a unique item in the collection.
