Production value of textile reaches $13.8bn in 2006

Yesterday, Industrial Technology Intelligence Services (ITIS) reported that production value of textile industry declined by 2.6 percent after reaching US $13.8 billion in 2006 compared to previous year.

During the period, trade surplus of the country reached $9.06 billion after imports amounted to $2.7 billion and exports achieved $11.76 billion.

Similarly, production value of artificial fiber manufacturing sector stood at NT$151 billion, a year-on-year decline of 1.7 percent.

Moreover, sector producing yarns and fabrics generated production value of NT$262.7 billion, fell by 1.7 percent.

Last year, decline of 10.5 percent was also witnessed in production value of clothing industry after reaching NT$43.5 billion.

Experts believe that textile industry is mainly affected by rapid changes in international industrial environment.
