Thomas Isler went on to report on the inauguration by Swiss Textiles in February this year, in cooperation with the General Association of the German Textiles and Fashion Industry and the Professional Association of the Austrian Textiles Industry, of a representation in Shanghai, China. The aim is to help Swiss textile companies which wish to enter the Asian market.
Today, China is coming to play an increasingly important role. For the Swiss textiles and garments industry this opens up a favourable procurement market. There are also selling opportunities for niche products with high added value, e.g. for the delivery of preliminary textile products for the export-oriented Chinese garments industry in the up-market segment or home textiles for top of the range contract work and last but not least technical textiles.
Unsatisfactory compromise on climate policy
Unfortunately, the compromise arrived at by the Swiss Federal Council to launch a levy on heating fuels and a temporary climate levy on vehicle fuels is not welcome to the textile industry as this solution places particularly heavy burdens on SMBs. The Swiss Textiles Association doubts whether the introduction of a CO2 levy will have the desired impact on the control of fuel consumption.
