Textile and clothing exports of France during January-May 2007 did not record a significant change. During this period, overall textile exports dropped by two percent and stood at over 24 billion euros.
On the other hand, exports of clothing — both stitched and woven — inched higher by one percent and reached above two million euros. The top textile export markets for France were Belgium and Germany. Textile exports to Belgium stood at 2,63, 332 euros while that of Germany was 2,63,119 euros. However, both the countries presented a drop of five and four percent respectively.
South Korean market, on the other hand, emerged as a big exporter of French clothing. The country's export of clothes to France jumped 29 percent.
The top clothes exporting countries in 2007 were Spain and Italy. While exports to Spain increased by two percent and stood at 3,86,546 euros, that of Italy recorded a remarkable jump of 11 percent and was pegged at 3,73,611 euros.
While clothing exports to EU-27 remained unchanged, textile exports reduced by five percent.
France's textile imports taken as a whole in this year's first quarter remained unchanged at around two million euros. Clothing imports, however, fell by one percent only and stood at over five million euros.
The top countries from which France imported clothing were China and Italy. Import from China jumped 30 percent and stood at over one million euros while those from Italy dropped by four percent at 5,08,464 euros.
Italy and Germany topped the list of textile suppliers to France. While Italy's textile imports dropped five percent and was 4,50,550 euros, that of Germany shot up by five percent and stood at 3,44,333 euros.
South Korea also supplied textiles to France in a big way. France's textile imports from South Korea jumped 36 percent.
Total clothing imports from EU-27 dropped by ten percent while textile imports dropped by three percent.
