Petrochemical exports earn $3.3bn

A pioneer in petrochemical trading, Iran had recently bought a polyethylene factory in the Philippines and the trade results for this year also shows an upward trend in the country's chemical exports.

In the first eight months of 2007, starting from March, Iran's export of petrochemicals has brought in revenue of US $3.314 billion.

Statistics show an export of 5.723 million tons of products of which liquefied gas weighing 1.65 million tons took the largest space. During the period, ethylene, propylene and PTA formed the most significant chemical export items.

Benzene was exported both as a byproduct as well as in the category of aromatic products. Besides, Iran is also planning to export polymer products like PET.

Currently, Iran is recognized as the world's leading producer of ethylene seeking markets in Japan, UAE, China, India, South Korea, Italy, Singapore and Taiwan for its petrochemical products that makes for 86 and 80 percent of exports in terms of weight and value, respectively.
