ABS registers declining output in yarns, fibres, fabrics, clothing & footwear

Statistics released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics today clearly indicate downward trend in the annual production of wool, man-made fibres, fabrics, yarns, clothing & footwear.

While scoured and carbonized wool production in 2004-05 stood at 70,901 tons, it was down from 79,213 tons recorded in 2003-04 period.

Similarly, yarn output which stood at 29,584 ton in 2003-03 dropped to 21,577 ton in 2004-05.

Footwear production saw a decline from 4037 to 3301 in 2004-05 (in '000 pairs).
