Among British manufacturers, textile sector ones have put up lacklustre performance as the Annual Business Inquiry (ABI) figures revealed for 2004.
It said that agriculture, fishing, production, construction, distribution and service industries turnover of the production industries, including manufacturing, went up marginally from £526.3 billion to £553.7 billion.
Textile sector however, turned out laggard performance among other industries even as a narrow growth of manufacturing in turnover and gross value terms during 2003 and 2004, showed retarded progress.
Textile and textile products registered largest turnover drop at 9.3 percent followed by electrical and optical equipment at 7 percent.
In gross value terms textile and textile products recorded a massive 17.9 percent decline while and leather and leather products registered 14.8 percent downslide.
