Northern Ireland based manufacturer of carpets, Ulster Carpets said it has acquired Griffith Textile Machines, a UK manufacturer of technical textile machinery. The acquisition is being funded from cash reserves and reflects Ulster’s desire to continue to broaden the group by selectively adding outstanding businesses as and when an opportunity arises.

"Combining the skills of Griffith with Ulster’s weaving experience, will lead to further significant improvements in carpet weaving technology," Ulster added in a blog.

According to Ulster, this acquisition begins the second phase of the £35 million modernisation project of all woven manufacturing facilities at its Portadown facility.

In the first phase, the company recently completed a £8 million dye house and energy centre project, which will increase manufacturing efficiency as well as bring in major environmental benefits. (AR)
