Its detect-and-reject capability automatically identifies “bad” labels with a printed marker. The AP 5.4 has advanced communications features, including Ethernet, serial and parallel interfaces.

Avery Dennison's LMS software program features Wizard-driven screens and design tools that guide users through the label-creation process. The program is preformatted with sample RFID labels.

In a related development, the Avery Dennison Industrial RFID Starter Kit, introduced in early 2005, has been upgraded for RFID Gen 2 operation.

The industrial-grade package includes the Avery Dennison 64-05 RFID Printer, which features near-edge print technology and a 64-bit microprocessor.

The printer's “jump-the-bump” technology lifts the printhead over embedded RFID microchips, preventing the risk of damage to encoded labels. The Industrial Gen 2 RFID Starter Kit is priced at $7,395.
