Textile and apparel sectors represent almost 25 percent of Bulgaria's export profits, engaging over 170000 people.
For over six years, between 1999-2004 period, Bulgaria's apparel exports rose every year.
However, apparel exports dropped 0.7 percent to reach 1.539 billion euros in 2005.
The main export products are women's and men's woven leisurewear and sportswear.
The EU serves as the top destination for apparel exports, followed by the US.
Textile exports recorded a 4.9 percent boost to reach the 308.3 million euros mark.
As for the imports, apparel imports increased 13.9 percent to 137.2 million euros, while the textile imports declined slightly 0.9 percent to 1.343 billion euros.
Textile raw material is mainly imported from countries like Italy, Greece, France, Germany, Turkey, and Spain.
