Textile sector stays strong though exceptions remain

Indian textile exports to the US, during the November-December 2005 period, rose sharply superseding even Chinese exports.

While Chinese exports increased only 27.6 percent, Indian exports recorded a growth of 40.8 percent, in that period.

However, Indian textile exports throughout 2005 recorded only 27 percent increase, while that from China grew 53 percent.

Indian textile exports to the US grossed $731 million, a notable growth from $519 million in 2004.

Pakistan and Bangladesh registered a firm growth through out 2005.

As for the key textile failures, South Korea topped the charts with 22.6 percent decline in the November-December 2005 period.

Other losers include Mexico and Canada.
