After a yearlong delay, the creation of Palladam Hi-tech Weaving Park (PHWP) is in progress at Perumpalli, 20 km away from Tirupur. This park is likely to enhance the modernisation in the weaving industry.

With 95 weaving sheds to put up 728 shuttle-less looms, this park will have six master weaving units and four sizing units. The construction would be finished before March 2006 and businesses are expected to start by September 2006, P Kumarasamy, secretary, Coimbatore District Powerloom Owners' Association, informed.

Under the Textile Centre Infrastructure Development Scheme, the union government has sanctioned the grant of Rs 20 crore; meanwhile the state has agreed to give Rs 4.86 crore.

The 105 stakeholders will add Rs 2.45 crore and the remaining 27.6 crore would be obtained from banks and financial organisations. Central government has appointed Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Services (IL & FS) as the implementing agency, he added.

Productivity would be emphasized and government would try its level best to reduce the noise pollution considerably. The park is expected to create employment opportunity for 3000 people, said Kumarasamy.

Apart from sewage disposal plant to be set up by each separate unit, PHWP will also be equipped with warehousing, testing and training facilities, exhibition hall, power generation and distribution facility.

This park will help the traditional textiles town of Palladam in growing to be a centre for home textiles, he stated.
