He added that a number of smaller plants manufacture products that are seeing increasing demand in geo-textiles (used in areas of construction, paving, drainage and other applications), civil engineering markets and environmental protection applications. These capacities will approximately add up to 5,000 tonnes.
Textile firms are also pitching for investment subsidies to boost the segment.The US and Europe continue to be major markets for technical textiles.
While the transportation and clothing components had the highest market share in early '00, over the past few years, the growth in these segments has flattened. The estimated worldwide consumption of technical textiles at that time was $60bn and it has grown by 4% since then.
