Referencing the tunics and mantle pieces in the exhibition Gods and Empire: Huari Ceremonial Textiles, along with ceramic painting, Ms. Cook will explore the imagery and how each medium possesses its own idiom, paying particular attention to imagery of processions that include sacrifice and blood letting, and how it represents the Huari belief in the regenerative quality of the human body and sustaining the larger community. FEE: $7/Textile Museum members; $10/non-members. Advance registration required. To register, click here or call (202) 667-0441, ext. 64.

Special Event

The Art of Rozome Meets the World of Sake
THURSDAY, January 19, 6-8 pm

Join with Rebecca A.T. Stevens, Consulting Curator for Contemporary Textiles, and The Textile Museum's New Horizons Committee to savor some of the best of contemporary Japan, including exquisite textiles and fine boutique sakes, at a special tour and tasting event.

The evening will include curator-led gallery tours of the exhibition Rozome Masters of Japan, and local sake specialist Christian Choi, who will preside over a tasting of sake, Japan's quintessential drink.

Led by Choi and a guest sake sommelier, participants will learn how to evaluate sakes by color, aroma and flavor, while enjoying a selection of Japanese appetizers. Whether you are already a lover of sake and Japanese cuisine or are trying these delicacies for the first time, the evening will be a unique opportunity to enjoy Japanese culture with other lovers of the textile and culinary arts. FEE: $35/Textile Museum members; $45/non-members. Advance registration required.

To register, click here or call (202) 667-0441, ext. 49.
