Chinese firms lack design capabilities for textile brands

Chinese textile enterprises lack research, development and design capabilities for building their own independent brands, according to an industry analyst.

Wang Tiankai, the newly elected president of China National Textile and Apparel Council (CNTAC), said Chinese textile companies should invest in strategically building their own brands. However, cultural connotation will determine whether a brand has international competitiveness or not, he added.

China accounts for about 50 percent of the global textile trade, which shows that China is the world’s largest textile manufacturing country. But China has lesser number of textile brands that can compete internationally.

Hence, Chinese textile enterprises should effectively use scientific and strategic management of brands, focus on developing corporate culture and adjust products according to the changing consumer demands, he added.
