Fourth round of free trade negotiations between UAE and US yesterday in London highlighted telecommunications, E-Trade, areas of services, customs, textile, and rules of origin.

The other topics included for discussions were investment, intellectual property rights, government procurement and financial services.

The UAE delegation is led by Dr Mohammed Khalfan bin Kharbash, Minister of State for Financial and Industrial Affairs and Chairman of negotiation council and Shaikha Lubna Al Qasimi, UAE Minister of Economy and Planning and co-chair of the negotiation council.

Dr Kharbash said negotiations between the two sides have been on the positive side during the last three rounds of talks, because of common ground reached on the agreement mainly on environment, standardisation, agriculture, and labour.

Negotiations in this round will be on issues of the customs, textile, government procurement, financial services and investment said Dr Kharbash.

UAE would have access to the largest consumer market in the world with the endorsement of free trade agreements with the US.

UAE and US have already negotiated successfully the Trade and Investment Frame Work Agreement, which was ratified in April 2004 by the UAE Federal cabinet.
