“Bangladesh-and the Philippines can take joint initiatives in this respect for developing human resources through enhancing Chamber–to- Chamber cooperation”, he said.
In regard to bilateral trade President DCCI said, the present level of bilateral trade between Bangladesh and The Philippines is far below the existing potentials.
The export from Bangladesh to Philippines decreased from US$ 11.67 million in 1995-96 to US$ 4.71 million in 2004-05 while our import from the Philippines increased from US$ 2.48 million to US$ 17.44 million over the same period.
In order to improve the situation duty free access to some of our products such as Knitwear, RMG, pharmaceuticals, leather & leather goods, ceramics, melamine, rubber goods, jute products etc. are required to achieve a balanced, healthy and long-term growth of trade for mutual gains, he suggested.
Mahbubur Rahman, President. ICC requested Ramos to be the Ambassador of Bangladesh in Philippines. He further said, Bangladesh is going to be the member of ARF, which in due course could further help strengthening the bilateral relation between the two countries. DCCI past presidents and some members took part in the discussion meeting.
