PM for speeding up Textile City Project

Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz said that Government is setting up a modern Textile City at Karachi to increase production capacity and enhance product quality in order to compete effectively.

The Prime Minister was presiding over board meeting to implement the Pakistan Textile City Project at the Prime Minister's house, Tuesday morning.

Textiles was a major industry of Pakistan and the Government intends to expand its capacity, he informed.

Textile city at Karachi will add new industrial units and produce goods at reduced costs.

Government plans to provide infrastructure, incorporating new technologies in textile sector to render it competitive globally, the Prime Minister added.

Related departments were advised by the Prime Minister to extend positive cooperation in implementing federal and provincial government decisions to complete the work on schedule.

The Prime Minister was informed about the allocation of 700 acres of land for the textile city.

He directed officials to expedite handing over remaining 500 acres of land to the Managing Board of Textile City, which in turn can allot land to industrialists.

The Prime Minister asked Textile Ministry to put up proposals to set up garment cities in various cities including Karachi for domestic consumption as well as exports.

The meeting was attended among others by Minister for Textile, Mushtaq Cheema, Minister for Ports and Shipping, Babar Khan Ghouri, City Nazim Karachi and senior officials.
