To display their disenchantment against the government for levying four percent Value Added Tax (VAT) from August 18, 2005, the industry players and traders in Andhra Pradesh (AP) have decided to strike on February 22.

The AP Textile Federation leads this protest event in which cloth merchants have planned to march rallies, stage dharnas and submit memoranda to the concerned authorities.

B Venkatanarasimha Rao, Convener, District VAT Action Committee, said that VAT would be taxing the consumer further.

He suggested that the government collect tax from the mills at the production level itself, so that the common man does not get hit.

Relay fasts would be held during February 23-25 in concurrence with 'Chalo Hyderabad' program.
