The Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) released the Consumer Price Index (CPI) of February 2006.
It announced that the Composite CPI for February 2006 was 106.76, up by 0.36 percent over the previous month.
The lower prices in outbound package tours and hairdressing services after the Chinese New Year, and reduction sales in women's clothing led to decrease in the indices of Recreation & culture (-2.01 percent), Clothing & footwear (-2 percent) and Miscellaneous goods & services (-1 percent).
Composite CPI for February 2006 registered a year-on-year increase of 5.38 percent.
The average Composite CPI for January and February of 2006 went up by 5.63 percent compared with the same period of 2005; besides, observing the changes in the average index for the first two months of the year can lessen the anomalous impact to the consumer prices caused by the different timing of the Chinese New Year.
For the 12 months ended February 2006, the average Composite CPI increased by 4.83 percent over the previous period.
In addition, the CPI-A and CPI-B for February 2006 were 107.69 and 106.52, which increased by 0.68 percent and 0.32 percent compared with January.
Starting from January 2006, the CPI has been rebased to July 2004 to June 2005, apart from the compilation of the Composite CPI that reflects the impacts of price changes for the general population, two indices are compiled to show the influences of price changesfor households in different expenditure ranges.
